Meet the Owner
Hi! My name is Calesta, and I’m the owner of Motley Moo Creamery. I was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, and am a graduate of the University of Alaska Anchorage. I studied business in college and have a background in marketing, accounting, and finance.
My first “real” job at age 14 was working at Cold Stone Creamery with my twin sister and a friend from high school. Since those days, I’ve always dreamed of owning my own scoop shop. Today, with the support of my husband, the inspiration I receive from my son, and my passion for ice cream, that dream is now a reality!
I often get asked the question why ice cream? Sure, it’s my favorite dessert… sure I’ve always wanted to own an ice cream shop… and sure it’s the perfect way to express my creative thoughts and use my formal business training- I love ice cream and love making it, but the why behind the ice cream isn’t just about me, it’s about you.
Most everyone loves ice cream, and the happiness they experience while eating an ice cream cone is contagious. Bringing someone joy through something I created is the real “why” behind ice cream. At Motley Moo, we create and serve happiness one scoop at a time!
Did you know?
Our name was inspired by a very special pup named Motley. She’s no longer with us, but her spirit—and a little rock ’n’ roll attitude—live on in everything we do.
I’m a huge fan of rock music, particularly from the late 70’s and 80’s. A few of our name choices and descriptions for ice cream flavors make reference to some of my favorite songs, artists and bands.
My favorite ice cream flavor is Banana Ice Cream, Sweet Cream or Mamma Dat’ My Jam!
